Ride to Toroweap

I began my day with a ride from home (Ivins, UT) to Kanab, UT to meet with Otis Manson and Chris Clark DeChene for a brief business meeting.

Following our meeting, Otis and I headed over to McDonalds where we grabbed a quick bite for lunch and chatted with a rider of a 2011 Ural Patrol who was in the early days of his journey from Denver, CO to Whitehorse, AK. I was jealous! I've since discovered his fascinating blog at http://redlegsrides.blogspot.com.

I met up with Merril and Steve near Pipe Springs (5 miles past the Toroweap turnoff). From there, we all left together toward Toroweap (60 miles of dirt road). YES!

We took our time with several breaks along the way to orient ourselves and to admire the vast scenery.

We finally got to the boundary of the Grand Canyon National Park. From there, it was just a few short miles of fairly rough road.

Upon arriving at the campground, we were please to discover that we would be able to take the last one of only 9 sites that are available there.

After setting up camp, we rode another half mile out to the Toroweap Point Overlook with about 45 minutes before sunset. It was a spectacular view over the edge and made the day's ride even more rewarding. Pictured here are Merril Bryan (my dad) and Steven Bryan (my brother).

The following morning we packed up and headed back toward St George by way of Mt. Trumbull. It was a full day of off road adventure.

Happy trails!
We arrived home in the early afternoon with smiles from ear to ear. It was a great weekend adventure.

Ride to Zion

Well the weather has turned nice and I had the itch to get out on the bike. Shelley and the girls were heading to AZ to visit with family so Timmer and I decided to join Steve and Jill's family and Mom and Dad for a few days in Zion.

We had our pick of the campground as it was less than half full when we arrived on Friday morning.

Steve and Dad hauled their bikes in their trailers since they both had the family with them. We had our pick of the campground as it was less than half full when we arrived on Friday morning.

Friday afternoon we hiked to the top of the arch above the tunnel. It was a short hike but fun for the kids.

Saturday morning we hiked the Watchman trail up to the overlook. It was perfect weather and a beautiful morning.

Lunch time!
We all headed back Saturday evening. It was a great weekend and it was a fabulous ride.
